The Earliest Record of ZnO - Egypt
ZnO was referred to as Calamine in ancient Egypt, which is a natural mineral Smithsonite with ZnCO3 as its main compound. Because of long history, there was no knowledge of how diseases were cured through the use of ZnO. However, this is the earliest written record of human being making use of natural zinc minerals.

Medical Treatment History of Zinc Oxide
Zinc oxide is also known as "Lu-Gan-Stone" in China , according to Ben Cao Gang Mu, a masterpiece completed in 1596 summarizing the use and functionality of a wide range of Chinese herbal medicines. Zinc oxide has been used in medical treatment for quite number of years in China, only that no proper name like zinc oxide was given. Till 1750 ~ 1850, zinc oxide and zinc sulfide were formally used in medical treatment in many developed countries in Europe, which leads to increasing study and research on zinc oxide.

ZnO May Be Used as Foodstuff
ZnO may well be used as foodstuff. ZnO is not poisonous at all. After it goes into human body, it will decompose into zinc ions, which were proven in 1963 in medical papers as the indispensable elements for human body due to Zinc Deficiency Syndrome.

Comparison between traditional Zinc Oxide and Nano ZnO
Zinc oxide is a stable material in terms of anti-bacterial agent, which in nature is not poisonous. Instead of just killing the bacteria, the entire purpose is to prevent bacteria from happening in the first place, which lets bacteria have no opportunity to transform, thus saving the cost of developing new anti-bacterial medicine. As a result, ZnO has become one of the major forces for inorganic anti-bacterial agent. Furthermore, the study shows that after the process of making zinc oxide into nano particles, zinc oxide will deliver greater anti-bacterial power without the need for UV light as catalyst.
